Sustainability at Messe Augsburg: operational changes in the implementation of our events make a direct contribution

Sustainability that works in practice is important in the event industry - there are so many small changes that can add up to a more sustainable management of the trade fair grounds. Messe Augsburg is taking a step-by-step approach to a sustainable future and is rolling out practical examples with great success at its events in January.

In mid-January for the first time only electric e-forklifts were used to implement intralogistics at Messe Augsburg, which ensured more sustainable logistics on the trade fair grounds. Messe Augsburg and our global logistics partner, BTG, specifically chose JAGEN UND FISCHEN 2023 as a pilot project - Messe Augsburg is therefore one of the first trade fair venues to totally dispense with the diesel-powered forklift trucks that are generally used as part of the pilot project, and to use electric equipment and machinery for the internal trade fair logistics instead.

Messe Augsburg and its partners also addressed other aspects of sustainability at the beginning of the year: a new regional company has been operating since January in the catering sector. The "Tafeldecker" catering company was selected as it works with local suppliers, many of whom are within a radius of 10-30 km. This not only boosts the regional economy, but also ensures short delivery routes for the food products, a reduction in emissions and the freshness of the products.

Messe Augsburg's partner in cleaning services, blitzblank GmbH, is also contributing to sustainable event organization: blitzbank is a member of the Bavarian Environmental Pact and is certified in accordance with ISO 14001-2015. Only machinery and equipment powered by electricity is used on the Messe Augsburg trade fair grounds. blitzblank GmbH has its own environmental protection officer who conducts regular reviews to constantly monitor and improve processes.
