Strong alliance for sustainable energy solutions: Kenya is partner country of OFF-GRID Expo + Conference 2025

Kenya and Augsburg are joining forces: As the official partner country of the OFF-GRID Expo + Conference 2025 (OEC), the East African trailblazer brings expertise, innovation, and vision for a sustainable energy future to Bavaria.

In celebration of this collaboration, a Meet & Greet was held at the Messe Augsburg Conference Center in May, where delegates from the county governments of Baringo and Nandi, along with political and business representatives from Kenya and Germany, were in attendance. Notable guests included Benjamin Chesire Chebo, Governor of Baringo, and Stephen Sang, Governor of Nandi, who shared their plans for the rapidly growing region in East Africa.

“We are proud to be this year’s partner country of the Off-Grid Expo + Conference (OEC), and we look forward to meaningful exchanges and partnerships in Augsburg,” said H.E. Ambassador Stella Mokaya Orina (Embassy of Kenya in Berlin) ahead of the event. “As global stakeholders gather to shape the future of decentralized energy, Kenya is excited to contribute its experience, insights, and innovations to the conversation. Kenya invites all OEC participants to explore collaboration opportunities and share ideas that can drive inclusive and sustainable energy solutions worldwide.”

Kenya is one of the world’s leading countries in renewable energy and off-grid solutions. With its Vision 2030 and the updated National Energy Plan, Kenya is pursuing ambitious goals for sustainable development. Already today, the country generates over 80% of its electricity from renewable sources—primarily geothermal, solar, and wind energy. Kenya’s leadership in decentralized energy solutions makes it a natural fit for the OEC’s mission.

“We look forward to working with Kenya and to the inspiring contributions they’ll bring to OEC 2025,” said Lorenz A. Rau, CEO of Messe Augsburg. “Kenya not only brings valuable real-world examples but also embodies the spirit of the event: innovation, community, and a sustainable future.”

The city of Gersthofen, a neighbor to Augsburg, also plays a special role in this partnership. At the invitation of First Mayor Michael Wörle, the Kenyan delegation visited Gersthofen from May 7 to 13, which included a stop at Messe Augsburg. Michael Wörle stated, “Our long-standing partnership with Baringo and the wide-ranging connections we’ve built with Kenya will serve as the foundation for a delegation visit to OEC 2025 in Augsburg. We’ll activate our networks to ensure a high-level Kenyan delegation comes to the Lech River.”

The OFF-GRID Expo + Conference 2025, taking place on October 30–31, 2025, in Augsburg, is Europe’s only neutral trade fair and conference focused on off-grid energy solutions—and the hotspot for the international decentralized energy industry. As an English-language, practice-oriented B2B networking platform, it is designed for decision-makers, developers, installers, NGOs, academia, and public-sector representatives, with the goal of presenting and advancing solutions for a sustainable energy future. Under the patronage of Bavarian Minister for the Environment Thorsten Glauber, the event aligns closely with Bavaria’s Africa Strategy and actively contributes to several UN Sustainable Development Goals through its knowledge-sharing and collaborative approach.
